Heidi Malmberg
Counsel, Member of the Finnish and New York Bar, LL.M.
About me
I have worked as an environmental, energy and permitting lawyer for over 15 years. I started my career in the public sector and moved over to private practice in late 2005. I have been involved in various kinds of infrastructure projects, industrial development projects, transactions and day-to-day permitting and environmental liability matters.
In 2007, I decided to continue my legal education by taking a LL.M degree from the Duke University School of Law, and graduated from Duke in 2008. At that time, I also decided to sit for the New York Bar and am one of a handful of Finnish attorneys that are admitted to practice also in New York. This additional education has helped me particularly in understanding how clients that come from a common law environment see the Finnish legal system.
Together with the team in our environment, infrastructure and natural resource practice group I have been I involved in several 'first for Finland' projects. Still, many of the most interesting and challenging assignments that I have worked on over the years have been small day-to-day permitting and liability matters.
Having grown up in the small mining town of Pargas in the southwest of Finland, have always had a strong interest in the mining industry. I strive to find solutions that will work for you from a practical perspective as well from a legal and a business perspective, and note that that sometimes requires looking at completely new and unorthodox approaches.
Currently, I act as the chairperson of the Finnish Bar Association's expert group in environmental law.
Who's Who Legal ranks me among Finland's leading legal experts.
