Ilona Karppinen
Counsel, Member of the Finnish Bar
About me
I specialise in dispute resolution and general corporate law. In dispute resolution, my practice covers all aspects of domestic and international commercial litigation and arbitration. I have particular expertise in corporate disputes, energy disputes, and private enforcement of competition law. I have had the privilege of acting as counsel in some of Finland's largest damages cases, and I been recently ranked as Europe Rising Star in litigation by Euromoney Legal Media Group. In addition to my role as counsel to parties, I also act as arbitrator.
In the field of corporate law, I advise clients in legal matters related to corporate structuring, corporate governance and directors' liability.
I am actively involved in the world's largest lawyers' professional organisation, the International Bar Association. I have been an officer in the IBA Litigation Committee since 2009, currently as Vice Chair (2013–2016). I have published a number of articles in international professional publications regarding investment disputes, cost-efficiency in arbitration and the effects of the financial crisis on Finnish corporate governance.
